Morphophysiology of Potato (Solanum tuberosum) in Response to Drought Stress: Paving the Way Forward

چکیده
The cultivated potato ( Solanum tuberosum L.) is currently the third most important food crop in world and becoming increasingly to local economies of developing countries. Climate change threatens drastically reduce yields areas where growing season predicted become hotter drier. Modern well known as an extremely drought susceptible crop, which has primarily been attributed its shallow root system. This review addresses this decades old consensus, highlights other, less understood, morphophysiological features likely contribute susceptibility. explores effects on these traits goes discuss phenotypes may be associated with tolerance potato. Small canopies increase harvest index decrease evapotranspiration, open stem-type light penetration, but densely rooted cultivars, water uptake, have all past, largely ignored. While individual studies a limited number cultivars examined phenotypes, they are typically overlooked due consensus that depth only significant cause susceptibility We work, particularly respect morphology, context changing climate, highlight gaps our understanding such work implies.

Transcriptome Profiling of the Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) Plant under Drought Stress and Water-Stimulus Conditions
Drought stress can seriously affect tuberization, yield and quality of potato plant. However, the precise molecular mechanisms governing potato stolon's response to drought stress and water supply are not very well understood. In this work, a potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) variant, Ningshu 4, was subjected to severe drought stress treatment (DT) and re-watering treatment (RWT) at tuber bulking s...

Annexins are a family of calcium- and membrane-binding proteins that are important for plant tolerance to adverse environmental conditions. Annexins function to counteract oxidative stress, maintain cell redox homeostasis, and enhance drought tolerance. In the present study, an endogenous annexin, STANN1, was overexpressed to determine whether crop yields could be improved in potato (Solanum tu...

Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascades have crucial roles in the regulation of plant development and in plant responses to stress. Plant recognition of pathogen-associated molecular patterns or pathogen-derived effector proteins has been shown to trigger activation of several MAPKs. This then controls defence responses, including synthesis and/or signalling of defence hormones and act...
متن کاملDifferential Protein Expression in Response to Abiotic Stress in Two Potato Species: Solanum commersonii Dun and Solanum tuberosum L.
Better knowledge on responses to dehydration stress could help to improve the existing cryopreservation protocols for potato, since plant tissues processed for cryopreservation are often submitted to similar in vitro stress conditions. Cryopreservation (the best method of conservation for vegetatively propagated plants) of potato still needs to be standardized to make it available and to conser...
متن کاملUltrastructural and physiological responses of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) plantlets to gradient saline stress
Salinity is one of the major abiotic stresses that impacts plant growth and reduces the productivity of field crops. Compared to field plants, test tube plantlets offer a direct and fast approach to investigate the mechanism of salt tolerance. Here we examined the ultrastructural and physiological responses of potato (Solanum tuberosum L. c.v. "Longshu No. 3") plantlets to gradient saline stres...
